Timing Is Everything

I generally ask several times before JB agrees to a trim.
When I get a yes--I'm off for the scissors.

A Taste For Memories

It's that time of year again.

And although Halloween is Friday, don't be fooled into thinking
this copper kettle is filled with Witch's Brew.

JB is busy making plans for what will be our third year of Apple Butter.

And as expected, some who have been involved in past years
have decided not to be a part this year. Can't say I blame them--it is a lot of work!

We're slated for the last weekend before Thanksgiving
and we have a new couple to break in this year... and the city-girl daughter!

It has all the makings of wonderful memories.

All Things Must Pass

The last time I saw my spider friend was 48 hours ago. I think she has moved on. I'm thinking she has grown tired of all the attention and the flash from my camera.

I read up a bit about the Orb spider. From what I understand, patience is not her strong suit. It seems that sometimes the female Orb spider will kill the male if he fumbles (or is not quite as skilled as she would like) during foreplay. She has a zero tolerance.

My oldest daughter's response-- when I shared this with her-- was "Right on... "

This next generation has zero tolerance in so many relationship areas... and I am so proud. My generation still has a bit of that bite-your-tongue-and-just-ignore-it going on.

But, I have learned to pick my battles. And I have learned "he who walks away from a fight, lives to fight another day."

So are you fighting... or picking your battles?

It's Not Whether You Win Or Lose...

It's how you play the game.

This evening Miss Jessica challenged JB and I to a game of Scrabble.

JB raised the stakes a bit. He suggested the loser would have to clean the house for a week--to my expectations--

not that I am unusually neat or anything...

At any rate, the game was splendid and the conversation divine!

And the housecleaner for a week?

I'll let you figure that one out...

The Power of Suggestion

I overslept a bit this morning. When I peered over the covers, past the overgrown hibicus at the end of the bed, to look at the digital numbers on the clock over by the dresser, I saw 6:56.

That meant changing the schedule. I wouldn't have time to post.. or read blogs.. or spend that hour in front of the computer before rushing off to the shower.
I did what I had to do, though and woke JB at 7:22.

He didn't seem in all that big of a rush, and after further inquiry I discovered he would be home for the day.

My mother didn't raise a fool. I seized the opportunity.

I told him since I had school and he would be home, why not help me out a bit? I suggested he mop the kitchen floor, clean the bathroom and vacuum the living room. After all, Friday Night Get-Together was at OUR house this week. All these things I would need to do when I got home from school.

I went off to school.

When I phoned after Biology class today, I asked JB how his morning went. He told me he just got through mopping the kitchen floor...
