My stepson Chris, enjoying his 24th birthday celebration at Meemaw's...
Just for his benefit, and because I think its my obligation as a parent to utilize any available opportunity to share a life lesson, I asked everyone in attendance--one by one--what they were doing when they were 24 years old.
The young man rolled his eyes, chuckled a time or two, but listened.
I'm hoping that somewhere down the line he will remember what his father or grandfather had to say. I'm also hoping he can learn from our mistakes as well as our successes.

Looks like the cake got a thumbs up!
So, is this the same kid who at Mother's Day told you that he already had a mom?
I feel the need to clarify: He didn't tell me that (he already had a mother) on Mother's Day and to be quite honest, I don't now if HE has actually ever said that to me... but the outlaws have pointed it out several times. No matter. He's got TWO mothers now.
Nice looking lad, isn't he?
He *is* good-looking.
And I like that exercise you invented. At 24...
I was deeply depressed at the end of a long-term (six-year) relationship.
The end of that relationship? The best thing that ever happened to me.
Go figure.
Bit of a comedian, eh?
At 24, I was in my second year of law school and HATING it. Did I get a clue and quit? No, I did not. Did I practice law for 10 years and hate nine-tenths of it? Yes, I did.
My world view at 24? Not terribly aware.
Love that idea. Will save it for future reference. And, by the way, at 24 I was sleeping on the floor in a flat above a bar in Hamburg trying to form what would later be the worst band in Germany. Not something I'd do twice.
that's such a good idea -
must do it this year for Oldest (22) before we get to the years we had the babies!
